KATE RITCHIE
Kate Ritchie is a mixed media artist from North Carolina. She utilises collage, printmaking and acrylic painting techniques to create artworks rich in color and texture. Ritchie is a spiritual person who draws inspiration from the natural world and the cosmos. There are often images of portals in her work, which illustrates her fascination with life’s transitions and her ongoing pursuit of personal growth. Her artistic style blends elements of realism and abstraction, portraying fantasy imagery for the viewer to escape into. She has created many bodies of work– from goddess portraits to floral collages– with the hope of inspiring connection and unity between her audience and nature.
Originally from the United States, Kate Ritchie grew up on a horse farm in North Carolina. Ritchie took art classes from the time she was 5 years old where she made crafts in the ‘art room’ in the barn on her family’s property. She has been making art her whole life and enjoys learning and experimenting with new art techniques. She received her BA in Fine Art from College of Charleston in 2014 and pursued a career as an artist and art teacher in South Carolina for the next decade. Through experiencing how meaningful art making could be in community with others, she decided to further her career by pursuing a masters degree in art therapy. In 2023, Ritchie visited Edinburgh on holiday and felt called to go through her next “portal.” The stars aligned in 2024 when she was accepted into the art psychotherapy program at Queen Margaret University. Ritchie has now been living in Edinburgh for 2 years and recently received her masters degree in Art Psychotherapy from QMU in July 2026.
“ART IS NOT A CAREER— IT IS A WAY OF LIFE.”
